Winter Remedies: Make Your Own Warming Hand Balm

This herb infused balm is a lovely remedy for cold hands and feet. It’s also a wonderful moisturiser for chapped winter skin. 

Ingredients

  • 80 ml sweet almond oil or olive oil 

  • 5g each of dried bay leaf, peppercorns and thyme 

  • 10g beeswax

  • 10 drops each of rosemary, clove, ginger and sweet orange essential oils (40 drop in total)

Method

  1. Combine your oil and dried herbs and heat using a bain marie set-up (eg. double saucepan or heatproof bowl set over a pan of water

  2. Bring the water to a light simmer and heat for about 1 hour, stirring herbs every so often

  3. Turn off the heat and allow the oil to cool a little

  4. Strain out the herbs by pouring through a fine sieve

  5. Weigh out the beeswax, grate and add to the strained herb oil

  6. Heat up the herb oil and wax, using the same bain marie set-up)

  7. Stir gently until all the wax has melted

  8. Take off the heat and add in the essential oils

  9. Stir well to combine and then pour out into a steralised glass jar

  10. Label your jar and place the lid on once the balm is completely cool
