Recipe // Rosy Hot Chocolate

Hi everyone, Fran here from the team! At Hackney Herbal, we love working with Rose and you'll find it in some of our herbal tea blends. Rose water is a staple in my kitchen cupboard as it tastes delicious, has many healing and health properties and can also be used topically. It lends an interesting edge to sweet treats as well as smoothies and hot drinks. It's easy to locate with many corner shops selling it which is handy if you want to support your local shop/are avoiding the supermarket at this time!

Rose water contains antioxidants, aids digestion and can soothe a sore throat. I've created a mood boosting and healthy-ish hot chocolate recipe using a few ingredients you might already have in the cupboard.

Ingredients

  • a couple of drops rose water

  • 250ml milk of your choice (I used rice but cashew or oat work well too)

  • 1 heaped tsp cacao or cocoa powder

  • Sweetener of your choice

  • 1/4 tsp coconut oil (optional for extra indulgence)

Recipe

  1. In a blender add cacao powder, rose water, milk and sweetener and blend till all ingredients are combined.

  2. Using a small pan, heat the liquid up on a low heat, stirring gently. It should be warm but not piping hot.

  3. Remove from the heat, pour the liquid back in the blender with the coconut oil and blend for around 30 seconds on a low setting.Blending the ingredients will give you the best consistency but you can also skip the blender and use a hand held or electric whisk to combine everything.

  4. Pour contents into your favourite mug and enjoy πŸŒΉ
